From About.com

One of the fresh and unique qualities of the World Wide Web is the fact that almost anyone can construct a Website. One of the troubling aspects of the Internet health and medical field is the fact that almost anyone can construct a Website. How can you be sure that you are getting sound information?

Some have recommended that you start at official government sites. The U.S. government has developed the Healthfinder site as a starting point for health information Online. This is a good site, but it has a broad focus. It includes some mental health resources, but the selection is limited. It's probably safe to stick with what the government lists - but If you want more than that, then read on...

As your About.com Guide to Mental Health Resources it is my job to help you find reliable Online mental health information. As a clinical psychologist I deal with mental health issues every day. At this site I write articles to address current issues in mental health. Past features have dealt with topics such as some of the factors that I believe contribute to youth violence. I have also written about a strategy that some managed care companies have used to cut payments to providers, and on metaphors that may help your life.

What if you can't find what you need? The Forum is available for interaction with others. You can leave your question here and hundreds of people can read and reply. There's a good chance that someone else has the answer. You can also search for resources at Mental Health Search. This page is particularly good for students doing research, or consumers looking for information about a disorder.

Keep up to date with a weekly newsletter. I'll let you know about the latest additions to the site, but I won't bombard you with email. There are also two specialized newsletters to help you stay mentally healthy and learn more about the complex issues linking trauma and memory. Enjoy your stay here, and come back often to find information you can trust.
